• Avoiding Baseball Injuries

    May 8, 2014: Baseball may seem like a game with lots of standing around, but between those moments of calm it includes athletes moving with great speed and force — throwing, swinging, fielding, and running the bases.

    In this episode, physical therapist Sue Falsone, PT, MS, SCS, ATC, CSCS, COMT, who served as the head trainer and physical therapist for the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 2012 and 2013 seasons, provides a glimpse of how baseball players cope with the rigors of the game at the professional level.

    She also speculates on whether the early single-sport specialization of many youth athletes could be contributing to the recent rash of severe elbow injuries in Major League Baseball.

    Sue Falsone, PT, MS, SCS, ATC, CSCS, COMT, is the founder of Structure & Function (S&F), a consulting and education business for healthcare clinicians, as well as a consulting company for athletes. Before starting S&F, she was the first woman to earn the traditional head trainer position among any of the four major sports in the United States (MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA). She also served as the Vice President of Performance Physical Therapy and Team Sport for 13 years prior to that.
