    April 10, 2014: Everybody experiences pain at some point.  But understanding pain is a different matter.

    In today's episode, physical therapists Joseph Brence, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT,COMT, DAC, and John Ware, PT, MS, FAAOMPT, discuss where pain comes from, and how it works. These are important concepts because research suggests that simply understanding pain can improve an individual's ability to manage pain, and reduce its negative impact on daily life.

    Joseph Brence, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT,COMT, DAC, is a physical therapist and clinical researcher who treats a wide range of painful conditions including complex regional pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome. He is currently involved in a wide range of clinical research projects involving understanding the neuromatrix and determining how it applies to physical therapy. He is the vice president of operations for NxtGen Insitute of Physical Therapy, serves on the editorial board of MoveForwardPT.com, manages the blog Forward Thinking PT, and writes monthly research reviews for SportEx Medicine.





    John Ware, PT, MS, FAAOMPT,  is  the Director of Outpatient Physical Therapy for the Department of Physical Therapy at Lousiana State University Health Sciences Center-New Orleans.  John has particular expertise treating persistent pain due to musculoskeletal conditions, such as low back pain, neck pain, joint tendinopathies and osteoarthritis, chronic regional pain syndrome and fibromyalgia. He is nearing the end of his studies towards a Doctor of Health Sciences at the University of Indianapolis.
