Tag games are the perfect way for a big group of kids to play together, no matter what their age, gender, or ability! This cooperative game is so much fun and gets everyone working and laughing together!

Children playing blob tag

Skill Areas Addressed (See Glossary):

  • Gross motor skills
  • Endurance
  • Social skills
  • Cognitive skills

What You Will Need:

  • Kids (the more the better)
  • An open and defined space to play

What to Do:

One child will begin as the blob ("it"). The rest of the players scatter about the playing area. The "it" player attempts to tag the other players.

When another player gets tagged, he must join hands with the "it" player—forming the blob and running together to tag other kids.

As more players get tagged, they hold hands with either end of the blob, and the blob grows and grows! At any given time, the blob will only have 2 hands available for tagging (1 on each end).

The object of the game is to have everyone participate. Runners who are "tagged" will help form the blob to catch other players. The "winner" is the last player captured by the blob.

Rules to Remember:

  • Only the end players of the blob can tag others.
  • The blob must remain intact in order to tag others.

How To Change It Up:

  • Try giving a pool noodle to each free hand of the blob to help with tagging.
  • Outline the designated play space with painter’s tape, sidewalk chalk, cones, etc, to keep the playing area smaller.
